They had mixed success up until 1996 when the Ravers decided to take a more professional approach to their team. Since then the club have won five league titles and were runners-up twice before being promoted to National 2 West in 2007. A decade later they went on a 28 game unbeaten run as they moved into National 1. Last season, the title race went down to the wire and in the penultimate game, Caldy hosted local rivals Sale FC, both knowing a win would put them in pole position to go up. In front of a crowd of over 3, 000, Caldy ran out 13-9 victors and secured their place in the Championship for the first time in their history.
The second row consists of Sam Collingridge and Jake Monson controlling the lineout. The pair look to take advantage of our deadly maul. Packing down at the back is David Massey, Toby Saysell and Captain Mark Bright. The trio offers real balance and a constant threat in attack and defence. We see 2 changes in Richmond’s backline, James Little returns to his regular spot at outside centre, moving Jake Caddy over to left wing and shifting Will Kaye on to the bench.
After making his return last game at 13, Jake Caddy moves over to his more familiar position on the left wing. On the other wing is Alex O’Meara. This season Alex has enjoyed playing against Caldy, bagging himself a 3 tries from the last two games. Finally at full-back is Darren Atkins. Atkins adds an extra level in our attack, as he can easily play at fly-half. A near to identical bench is announced. Joe Vajner, Luke Spring and George Cave cover for front row. Henri Williams and Miles Wakeling make up the rest of the forward replacements. James Lennon covers Stafford at scrum-half, Alex Burrage stays in as fly-half replacement and the only change in the bench is Will Kaye, who has moved to the bench as back three cover. newsWe travel to Caldy this Saturday for our rearranged Round 10 Championship fixture. RFU CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 10 (REARRANGED)Date: Saturday 7th JanuaryKick-Off: 2pmLocation: Paton Field, CaldyTickets: Available from £10 - click here to purchaseCoverage: Live coverage of the game will be available via our Twitter feedABOUT THE OPPOSITION:Originally founded in 1924 for former pupils of Calday Grange School, the club quickly progressed, much through the help of the club’s benefactor Sir Alfred Paton. In 1928, Paton gifted the club Thurstaston Hill, the land where the club still play and the original pavilion that was built almost 100 years ago, is still the core of the current clubhouse today. In 1967, the club levelled up the slope outside the clubhouse to ensure a first-class 1st XV pitch despite the, at the time, £7, 000 price tag. They joined the Giro bank North West league a year later, which was a forerunner to the National Leagues.
In at halfbacks, controlling play is Jack Stafford at 9 and Bill Johnston at 10. The duo displayed great continuity in our last fixture. Paul Kiernan keeps his spot at inside centre, whilst James Little rejoins at 13. This Richmond centre partnership has become a regular occurrence this season and has to be a real menace in the midfield.
