Cell C Sharks v British & Irish Lions TV details, kick-off time, team newsBath Rugby winger Anthony Watson is set to start for the British and Irish Lions this evening having had to withdraw from the squad in midweek due to a Covid scare. Organisers of the 2021 British and Irish Lions 2021 summer tour to South Africa are certainly having to think on their feet as inevitably Covid-19 is having a significant impact on the tour. As a result of a number of positive Covid cases at the Vodacom Bulls, the British Lions will play the Durban-based Sharks today (Saturday) for the second time in four days in a late switch of opposition. On Wednesday night the Lions beat the Sharks 7-54 at Emirates Airline Park.
The great news for the Lions is that as of Friday the touring party's PCR screening programme returned a negative set of results meaning head coach Warren Gatland is able to pick from a full strength squad for the third fixture in South Africa having had a number of players and staff - including Bath's Watson - isolating in midweek. Tragically there will be no fans allowed in the mighty stadiums in South Africa as the country is currently suffering from another wave of Covid-19 infections which has led the President to step up lockdown practices.
